JMFS Jamaica Relief

JMFS joins with others to Form the Jamaica Relief Collective - Hurricane Melissa Relief

On Monday October 27, 2025, the strongest recorded hurricane to ever make landfall in the Caribbean, crossed the shores of our beloved island Jamaica.  Many of us watched on TV and the Internet as brave reporters battled the winds and the rain to keep us updated on the progress.  We were in awe; dumbstruck! Jamaica had experienced hurricanes before, but never one like this one!! On our various platforms, we kept getting reports of the howling wind: The pelting rain.

The western part of the island bore the full brunt of Hurricane Melissa—a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane. It ravaged communities with ferocious winds and rain, leaving thousands of families without the basic necessities; food, clean water, and safe shelter!

The scale of the devastation is immense—The World Bank and the Inter-American Bank estimates the damage at US$8.8 billion. All sectors, residential, non-residential, agricultural, and infrastructure have been affected. The Economic fallout is great as western Jamaica encompasses the “Bread Basket” and “Tourist Capital” parishes.

The Why?

Within our organization are many who are affiliated with Jamaica through birth, parentage, having family members and friends there, or are just plain lovers of Jamaica, the people, and what the country contributes to the world at large! Still others, from different parts of the Caribbean, have seen disaster from earthquakes and erupting volcanos. Today, we join with others as we demonstrate, “Mission in Action.” We cannot afford to stand idlily by and be counted as, “Missing in Action!”

The Call to Action

In this critical moment of recovery, every gift can make a meaningful difference. We invite you to contribute to our dedicated relief fund, to provide support for immediate needs (shelter, safe water, food), and further help in the rebuilding of our loved country, Jamaica.
